Trip advisor is just a way to black mail small companies. Some people stay a whole week, and then want all their money back.....or they treating our staff to put a bad story on trip advisor and they do. An other group is compitition.........we had two of those,
But having 7000 guests a year....a few un happy campers is normal.
Thank goodness, those guests tell the whole world they will never come back, and that is just great for us.
Do your best and enjoy your job.

Trip Advisor reviews are very subjective and people really don't stop to think of the effect of their review. I do honestly think some people hugely enjoy reading their own cleverness in making a witty criticism. However, they are genuine, at least on my site. There is only 1 restaurant one that we cannot remember at all and it sounds very improbable. But to newspapers! Today's local paper has a really damaging letter damning our food and service last Sunday lunch time. It mentions three other restaurants in town, even one he has not yet tried and the reference to us is unmistakable. I believe he had a truly disappointing experience but I was not on duty, the newspaper did not ask whether he had eaten here or not and the customer said nothing to me before hastening in to print. The thing is that if he had rung with this litany of horrors so unlike us, he would have had another free lunch for 6 at a time of his choosing if he had given us the chance to make amends. My question is can the newspaper letter page print his letter or should they have rung me first?
Yours in tears

As a committed Christian I find the attitude of the B & B owners who turned away homosexuals embarrassingly typical. It is a pity we (of the faith) don't pay more attention to following Jesus and less attention to following in the footsteps of the Pharisees. (Remember, it was those who judged others he had least time for!)
Some would say we should condone activities which the bible describes as abhorrent and they can 'say' what they like; our opinions are as valid as anyone else's (so far) but our passion to provide perfect hospitality can be undermined by 'condemning others'.
Jesus knew what it was to be condemned by the mob; so do gay people and now, so do the guest house owners who chose to ignore the pink pound. I accommodated a convicted paedophile last year and when his oppressors located him I received threatening phone calls. We make choices about life style for all sorts of reasons but let's get to work providing a strong, safe and loving environment where "Christian" implies a very high quality of accommodation where everyone can 'feel' the presence of God!

As a non-stipendiary minister in the Church of England I can find no theological basis for descrimination against gay couples. I can find however, direct theological condemnation of those who abuse children.
For me the issue is whether a relationship is abusive or loving, if loving then it is of God, if abusive then it matters not whether it be hetero or homo sexual it is condemnable. Theologically I am required to leave judgement to God alone, so I am not in the business of discrimination, let those who are without sin cast the first stone!

Hi Pam. First and foremost, if you provided a credit card and disagree with any payment that is taken from your card you should notify your card supplier who after investigating will refund your money and recover the refund from the source from which it was taken, ie., the B&B. The B&B if they wish to recover the cost of damage from you will be able to proceed as they would for any debt recovery., ie., a County Court claim.
I cannot comment on how much damage was caused, nor whether the claim is reasonable, but I can point you in the right direction.
These are the steps you should take.
1. Ask for a breakdown ie., how was the sum of £800 arrived at, and ask for details of the manufacturer, age and type of the mattress, and find out yourself what the true cost of replacement would be, and obtain proof either by writing to the manufacturer or finding the same mattress online and printing the page, or by visiting a local showroom and asking for a leaflet.
2. If you believe the claim is excessive, and the B&B tries to enforce it, in the first instance seek advice from your local Citizens Advice Bureau. Show them the breakdown, and the proof you have obtained, and they will be able to advise you further.

Unfortunately a bottle of red wine tipped over and stained the mattress at a B&B we stayed at recently. We were contacted by the hostess who said that she will be using our credit card to replace the mattress, which was costly at £800. I don't think this is reasonable and offered to pay for cleaning, but she said the stains won't come out. Where do I stand in law pleasse?
